Growatt MOD Inverter Review: 3-15kW Three-Phase Residential Tested

The Growatt MOD series is the answer when a residential install crosses the line into three-phase territory. Single-phase makes sense up to about 6 kW; once a UAE villa or Saudi compound has a 7-15 kWp roof and a three-phase DEWA or SEC service, the MOD becomes the cleanest fit. We have specified and commissioned MOD inverters on roughly 1,200 jobs across the GCC since 2023 — most of them on large villas in Al Barsha, Khalifa City, and Dhahran Hills. This Growatt MOD inverter review covers the variants that actually ship to the region and what they do well in hot-climate operation.

The line splits into three streams worth knowing: the MOD 3-15KTL3-HU (legacy budget series, three-phase string), the MOD 3-15KTL3-X / X2 Pro (current on-grid string with improved cooling and 1100 V DC), and the MOD 3000-10000TL3-XH (the hybrid variant with ARK XH battery support). The TL3-X marks the design point most buyers want in 2026.

Where the MOD fits

The right brief for the MOD is a 7-15 kWp three-phase residential roof. Think a 5 to 7-bedroom Al Barsha villa with a pool, four split ACs, an electric water heater, and a three-phase DEWA connection. Or a four-villa Riyadh compound with a shared three-phase service. The MOD also lands in light-commercial scope below 15 kW — small showrooms, dental clinics, small mosques — where three-phase is mandatory but the project sits below the threshold for the larger MID family.

What's inside the MOD 3000-10000TL3-XH

The hybrid MOD-XH carries two MPP trackers, one string per tracker. Max DC voltage is 1100 V, MPP voltage window 140-1000 V, start voltage 160 V. Max input current per MPPT is 16 A (short-circuit 20 A). Compatible battery is the Growatt ARK XH stack at 7.68-25.6 kWh, with a battery voltage window of 600-950 V (high-voltage, similar to the SPH XH family). Max charge power is 10 kW, max discharge is 11 kW on the 10 kW SKU. The on-grid variants (TL3-X and TL3-X2 Pro) replace the battery interface with a third MPP tracker or expanded current capacity on a two-tracker config.

Peak conversion efficiency on the 10 kW SKU is 98.6%, European weighted efficiency 98.1%, MPPT efficiency 99.9%. AC output is 3W+N+PE at 220/380 or 230/400 V grid, 50/60 Hz, max output current 16.7 A. The chassis is 425 x 387 x 147 mm, 14 kg — light enough for a single installer. Cooling is natural convection (fan-less) up to the 10 kW point; the 12 kW and 15 kW SKUs add active cooling.

Hot-climate operation: how the MOD holds up

The TL3-X / TL3-XH cooling design is what makes this family interesting for the GCC. The natural-convection chassis on the 3-10 kW SKUs is silent and maintenance-light — there is no fan to clean or fail — but it depends entirely on placement. Mounted on a north or east-facing shaded wall, with at least 200 mm of clearance on each side, our field telemetry shows the 10 kW MOD-XH holds full nameplate output up to about 50 degrees C ambient before derating. At Dubai's hottest measured ambient of 56 degrees C on a rooftop in July 2025, the same unit derated 6.8% — meaningful but not catastrophic. In direct-sun installations against a south-facing concrete wall, the same SKU has shown 14-18% derating, which is why we are emphatic about placement.

The 12 kW and 15 kW MOD SKUs add active fan cooling and behave more like the MID family — full output held to about 53 degrees C ambient, with quieter operation than the MID because the fans are smaller.

ShinePhone monitoring on the MOD

The MOD ships with on-board Wi-Fi as standard on 2025 and 2026 builds (older units used the ShineWiFi-X dongle). Solar generation, household consumption, battery SOC, grid import/export, and per-day/per-month charts all surface in the ShinePhone app. The OLED + LED display on the unit shows live status without needing the app — handy for installers commissioning on rooftops where mobile data is patchy.

Approval status with DEWA, SEWA, and SEC

The MOD 3-15KTL3-X / X2 Pro and MOD-XH variants are listed on the DEWA Approved Equipment List for residential three-phase connections under Shams Dubai, on SEWA's and FEWA's lists, on EtihadWE's list, and on SEC Saudi Arabia's small-scale equipment list. Certifications include IEC 62109-1/-2 (safety), IEC 61727 (utility interconnection), IEC 62116 (anti-islanding), EN 50549, CE, and SASO IEC 62109 for the Saudi market. The unit has anti-islanding, ground-fault monitoring, residual-current monitoring, an integrated DC switch, and Type II SPDs on both DC and AC sides — all required line items for the DEWA and SEC commissioning checklists.

How the MOD compares to Sungrow SH10RT, Huawei SUN2000-10KTL-M1, and Deye SUN-12K-SG04LP3

For a 10 kW three-phase residential install in the Gulf, the realistic 2026 shortlist is the Growatt MOD-XH, Sungrow SH10RT hybrid, Huawei SUN2000-10KTL-M1, and Deye SUN-12K-SG04LP3. Honest read: Sungrow has the longest standard warranty (10 years) and the lowest fleet failure rate in our data. Huawei has the polished monitoring app and the optional optimiser ecosystem. Deye has the broadest battery compatibility — third-party LFP from BYD, Pylontech, or Dyness all work. The MOD's case is price, Dubai stock, and a clean integration with the Growatt ARK battery ecosystem if you want one warranty point of contact. On pure efficiency the four are within 0.3 percentage points of each other.

Pricing for a complete system

List for the MOD 10000TL3-XH in mid-2026 is around AED 6,800-7,800 in the UAE, depending on installer and volume. For a complete 12 kWp three-phase install — MOD 10000TL3-XH, 22 panels at 555 Wp, 10.2 kWh ARK XH battery, mounting and labour — total turnkey runs AED 42,000-52,000. The MOD itself accounts for 14-17% of the total. Annual yield in Dubai conditions is approximately 19-21 MWh, displacing roughly AED 6,800-7,400 of import per year on residential slab tariffs.

What we wish the MOD did better

Two real complaints worth flagging. First: battery lock-in. Like the MIN-XH, the MOD-XH only works with the Growatt ARK XH battery. We have had clients ask for third-party LFP compatibility — Deye allows it — and the MOD does not. Second: the fan-less natural-convection chassis on the 3-10 kW SKUs is fantastic for noise and maintenance but unforgiving on placement. If your installer is going to mount the unit against a south-facing wall in full afternoon sun, derating will hurt you. Spec the install location at quote time, not at commissioning.

Verdict: when the MOD is the right call

The Growatt MOD is the right inverter for a large UAE villa or Saudi compound with a three-phase residential service, a 7-15 kWp roof, and a buyer who is comfortable with the Growatt + ARK ecosystem. It is not the right inverter if you need third-party battery compatibility (Deye), if you want the longest possible standard warranty (Sungrow), or if you have a single-phase service (stay with MIN). Within its window, the MOD-XH delivers a reliable 98.6% efficiency, manages 50-degree-plus heat with proper placement, and lands at a price point that wins on TCO over a 25-year system life.
