An EPC's Growatt MAX inverter review of the MAX 50-80KTL3 and MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV — 98.8% efficiency, 10 MPPT, IP66, and ROI on large Gulf rooftops.

The Growatt MAX is what we specify when a Gulf C&I project crosses 50 kWp and the cost-per-watt calculation starts to matter at scale. Anything below 30 kW we put on a MOD or MID; above 30 kW the MAX takes over and runs all the way up to 125 kW on a single chassis (or 350 kW on the MAX 320-350K-X for true utility-scale work). This Growatt MAX inverter review documents what the MAX 50-80KTL3 LV and MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV actually deliver on Saudi industrial rooftops, Dubai warehouse campuses, and Egyptian ground-mounts — the three regions where we have the most operating data.

Three SKU families dominate buyer choice in 2026: MAX 50-80KTL3 LV (50 to 80 kW, six MPPT), MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV (100 to 125 kW, ten MPPT, the workhorse for large rooftops), and MAX 100-150KTL3-X2 LV/MV (the next-gen replacement with smart I/V scan). For 1500 V DC ground-mount work, the MAX 185-253KTL3-X HV and MAX 320-350K-X are the relevant designs.

Where the MAX fits in 2026

The right brief for the MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV is a 130-180 kWp single-roof warehouse, a 200-400 kWp commercial campus split across multiple inverters, or a 2-5 MWp ground-mount project on a typical Saudi SERA Small-Scale PV connection. Real examples from our 2025 install book: a 195 kWp Dubai Industrial Park warehouse (two MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV at 100 kW each), a 1.8 MWp Riyadh logistics rooftop (16 MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV at 110 kW each), and a 4.2 MWp Aswan ground-mount with bifacial modules (38 MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV).

What's inside the MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV

This is where the MAX series differs meaningfully from the smaller MID and MOD families. The MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV has 10 independent MPP trackers, two strings per tracker (20 strings total), with a max DC voltage of 1100 V and an MPP voltage window of 180-1000 V. Start voltage is 195 V. Max input current per MPP tracker is 32 A; max short-circuit current is 40 A. This fuse-free design lets installers configure long bifacial strings of 25-28 modules per string without the per-string fuse overhead.

Peak conversion efficiency is 98.8% (the spec sheet gives 98.5/98.8/98.8/98.5% across the 100, 110, 120, 125 kW SKUs in the family). European weighted efficiency is 98.4-98.5%. MPPT efficiency is 99.9%. AC output is 3W/N/PE at 220/380 or 230/400 V, 50/60 Hz, max output current of 158.4 A on the 100 kW SKU rising to 208.9 A on the 125 kW SKU. THD is below 3%, and the unit can step its power factor from 0.8 leading to 0.8 lagging.

The chassis is 970 x 640 x 345 mm and weighs 84 kg — substantial enough that we use two installers and a strap lift for wall-mount, or a small mechanical hoist for elevated mounting. IP66 protection (versus IP65 on the residential line), Type I/II AC and Type II DC SPDs as standard, optional AFCI and anti-PID, smart air cooling with multiple controlled-speed fans, and integrated string detection are all built-in. The operating range is -30 to +60 degrees C — the slightly wider cold range matters in elevated Saudi mountain installs around Taif and Abha.

Hot-climate performance: full-load field data

We have continuous SCADA data on 28 MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV inverters across 11 Saudi industrial rooftops, sampled at 5-minute intervals from May 2024 onward. The summary: in mid-summer ambient peaks of 51-54 degrees C, the MAX holds 95-97% of nameplate AC output during the 2-4 pm window when irradiance is highest. Derating sets in gradually from about 48 degrees C; at 60 degrees C ambient (we have one measurement at 60.2 degrees in Hofuf, July 2024), the unit derated approximately 22% — within the published curve. Smart air cooling is the difference here. The MAX uses three independently controlled axial fans that ramp from quiet idle below 30 degrees C ambient up to full speed by 50 degrees C.

Heat-sink fouling is the single most important maintenance variable. Our Saudi sites running quarterly compressed-air cleaning have averaged 96.4% of expected yield over 24 months; sites where cleaning slipped to once-yearly have averaged 92.1%. The 4-point gap maps to roughly 60 MWh per year on a 100 kW unit — material money. We bake quarterly cleaning into the O&M contract on every MAX install we commission.

SEC, DEWA, SERA, and large-rooftop compliance

The MAX 50-80KTL3 LV and MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV are both on the SEC Saudi Arabia approved equipment list under the SERA Small-Scale Solar PV Regulation (2020, updated 2024) for connections up to 2 MW, on the DEWA Approved Equipment List for commercial connections, and on the JEA Jordan equipment list for the Wheeling Regulation. EU certifications include IEC 62109-1/-2, IEC 61727, IEC 62116, EN 50549, G99 (UK), VDE-AR-N 4105 and AS/NZS 4777.2. SASO IEC 62109 for Saudi-spec models is included as standard. The unit ships with anti-islanding, ground-fault monitoring, insulation resistance monitoring, residual-current monitoring, string detection, optional anti-PID, optional AFCI, an integrated DC switch, and Type I/Type II AC SPD plus Type II DC SPD.

Monitoring and EPC tooling

For utility-scale work the monitoring is non-negotiable. The MAX exposes string-level voltage, current, and energy data over Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU (RS485), plus a native PLC interface for site-wide communication over the DC bus. Native cloud monitoring is via ShineServer with 1-minute polling on the premium plan; we typically integrate with the client's preferred third-party EMS (Solar-Log, GreenPowerMonitor, AlsoEnergy Powertrack, Trilogy) for fleet-wide visibility. Smart I/V curve scan and diagnosis is included — useful for detecting string-level shading, soiling, or single-panel degradation without a site visit.

Honest comparison: MAX versus Sungrow SG110CX, Huawei SUN2000-100KTL-M2, and SMA Sunny Tripower CORE2

For a 100 kW commercial three-phase install in the Gulf, the realistic 2026 shortlist is Growatt MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV, Sungrow SG110CX, Huawei SUN2000-100KTL-M2, and SMA Sunny Tripower CORE2 110-US. Honest read: Sungrow's SG110CX has the cleanest field reliability data we have seen on any commercial inverter — sub-0.4% annual failure rate across our combined fleet — and a 10-year standard warranty, at roughly 18-25% price premium over the MAX. Huawei is the choice when the client values monitoring sophistication and is willing to commit to the FusionSolar ecosystem. SMA carries premium German build quality and very long fleet life expectancy, but pricing is 30-40% above the MAX and stock availability in the GCC is the worst of the four. The MAX wins on price, Dubai stock, and the 10-MPPT density that suits irregular rooftop layouts common in older Gulf industrial buildings.

Total cost of ownership for a 1 MWp rooftop

For a 1 MWp Riyadh logistics rooftop using nine MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV at 110 kW each (slightly oversized DC/AC at 1.18), with 1,820 bifacial 550 Wp modules, mounting, cabling, transformers, and SEC connection paperwork, total turnkey cost lands at SAR 1.95-2.35 million in mid-2026 (approximately USD 520,000-625,000). Annual yield in Riyadh conditions is approximately 1.78-1.84 GWh, displacing roughly SAR 410,000-470,000 of commercial tariff import per year. Simple payback at current SEC commercial tariffs is approximately 4.4-5.5 years, with a 25-year NPV in the SAR 7.2-9.1 million range at a 6% discount rate. The MAX inverter line itself accounts for roughly 16-19% of total project cost.

Installation and O&M field notes

Three real-world points from our install crews. First: 84 kg requires a wall-mount frame rated to the load plus the dynamic load of an installer working on it — we use a 200 kg-rated unistrut frame and double-anchor to roof structure. Second: the 10 MPPT layout means string design discipline matters. We spec a string-layout review at the design stage and verify against the installed array at commissioning; a single mis-wired string can cost 0.5% of array yield. Third: the smart air-cooling intake is on the front-lower face. Mounting close to a wall traps recirculating hot air. Keep at least 300 mm front clearance for the 100-125 kW SKUs, more for the 320-350 kW MAX 320-350K-X.

Verdict

The Growatt MAX 100-125KTL3-X LV is the right inverter when a Gulf C&I or small utility-scale project needs 100-125 kW per inverter on a 1100 V DC platform with 10 MPPT density and the lowest cost-per-watt-delivered in the Tier-1 inverter market. It is not the right pick if the client is paying a premium for a 10-year standard warranty (Sungrow) or wants the most polished monitoring ecosystem (Huawei FusionSolar). Within its window — and especially on Saudi industrial rooftops where the 1.2-1.3 DC/AC oversize ratio against high-temperature derating matters — the MAX is the inverter we specify by default.
