Solar inverter size calculator: which Growatt inverter and battery for my load?

A solar inverter calculator that ends in a part number: tick the appliances and the hours of backup, and the answer is a Growatt model code rather than a kilowatt band. Behind it sit the 230 Growatt inverters and 59 Growatt batteries whose records this store can size from. Put through the same engine, the 20 ready-made loads currently come back with the SPH 10000TL-HU for 12, the SPF 4000T DVM for 3, the SPF 12000T DVM for 3, the MIN 9000TL-X2 for one and the SPE 12000W for one.

From a list of appliances to a Growatt model code

Start from the appliances, not from a kilowatt figure. Each one you tick adds its running load and, for anything with a motor, the extra it pulls at start-up; the hours you enter decide how much of a day's energy has to wait in a battery. With those two numbers — a peak in kW, a reserve in kWh — the engine goes to the Growatt records that state a rated power or a capacity, 230 inverters and 59 batteries, and names a model for each role it can fill.

Before you order, read two rows on the pages a result opens. On the inverter's page, its battery row: the SPH 10000TL-HU gives 40–60 V, an SPF DVM gives 48 V and a MIN-XH names a battery line (“ARK XH Battery System (5.1kWh~17.9kWh)”) where the others give a voltage. On the battery's page, its nominal voltage. An EV charger is not one of the appliances — enter it under “Add your own device” with its rating, 7 kW for the THOR 07AS-S/P-V1. Growatt lists no panels in this store, so the array arrives as a count and a roof area. Each price is the one printed on that unit's page, and orders are handed over at our store in Dubai or Riyadh. Sizing is all the tool does — it draws no circuit: the installation itself is approved by a licensed installer where you live.

Ready-made loads, worked through in Growatt units

Apartment, sized for a 4-hour outage after sunset: the profile starts at 4.9 kW and uses 13.8 kWh a day. The calculator's answer is the SPH 10000TL-HU, rated 10 kW, whose record puts the battery side at 40–60 V, with the ALP5.0L-E2 battery, counted as 4.5 kWh (nominal 51.2 V in its own record, inside that window), and an array of 6 panels on about 16 m². Growatt units in that answer: AED 7,752.

Villa, for a site the grid does not reach: the profile starts at 11.7 kW and uses 49.5 kWh a day. The calculator's answer is the SPF 12000T DVM, rated 12 kW, whose record states a 48 V battery, with 2 × AXE 50.0L batteries, counted as 90 kWh (nominal 51.2 V in its own record), and an array of 22 panels on about 57 m². Growatt units in that answer: AED 56,629.

House, tied to the grid, without a battery: the profile starts at 8.1 kW and uses 25.4 kWh a day. The calculator's answer is the MIN 9000TL-X2, rated 9 kW, and an array of 11 panels on about 29 m². Growatt units in that answer: AED 4,439.

Growatt inverters with a battery side, as this store prices them: MIN-XH (2.5–6 kW), between AED 2,366 and AED 2,885; the SPH 10000TL-HU, AED 4,790; SPF DVM (4–18 kW), between AED 2,741 and AED 8,651. Grid-tied on one phase, the MIN TL-X2 (7–10 kW): between AED 3,487 and AED 4,790.

Among the Growatt batteries: ARK L in 10 sizes (2.56–25.6 kWh), between AED 1,517 and AED 13,153; ALP at 5–40 kWh, between AED 2,962 and AED 20,552; AXE L at 5–50 kWh, between AED 2,962 and AED 25,689. A long backup window can come back as a count of one pack rather than a single unit; its page prices one.

Two Growatt lines are chosen another way, outside this calculation. An SPI is picked by the pump it drives — the record of the SPI 3600W recommends 2.2KW(3HP) — and a THOR charger by the supply: 230 V for the THOR 07AS-S/P-V1, 400 V for the THOR 11AS-P-V1.

Sizing a Growatt system: inverter, panels, battery

What size Growatt inverter does a house need?

The one that carries the start-up peak, not the average. The apartment profile peaks at 4.9 kW and comes back with the SPH 10000TL-HU, rated 10 kW, the house profile peaks at 8.1 kW and comes back with the SPH 10000TL-HU, rated 10 kW and the villa profile peaks at 11.7 kW and comes back with the SPF 12000T DVM, rated 12 kW. Tick your own appliances above and the peak — and the model — follow your list.

How many solar panels do I need behind a Growatt inverter?

Enough to put one day's consumption back in one day of sun. 13.8 kWh a day (apartment) takes 6 panels of 550 W on about 16 m² of roof, 25.4 kWh a day (house) takes 11 panels of 550 W on about 29 m² of roof and 49.5 kWh a day (villa) takes 20 panels of 550 W on about 52 m² of roof. Growatt lists no panels in this store, so the count is given at that module size.

What size battery covers a night of power cuts?

It depends on the hours more than on the building. The apartment profile sized for 4 hours after sunset installs 4.5 kWh — the ALP5.0L-E2; the same profile sized for 8 hours installs 9 kWh — the ALP10.0L-E2. The inverter does not change between the two; only the storage does.
